I'm still amazed just how incredible these turned out. Taken handheld from the roof of my house. Taken on the 2/12/03 right before the worst storm to hit Melbourne in 100 years. Prints will be available for all in the series :)

definitely an amazing shot... clouds like that are not a common sight. i'm sure you have heard this already but its a great composition and it has great colors.

(i searched "fucking awesome" on dA's search and this was the best deviation on the first page by far)

Simply incredible. If this photograph is unmanipulated, then you truly are a master of color. Many people have mentioned that, but the colors are astounding. I know that part of that is the unusual circumstances with the violent weather moving in, and I have seen such weather first hand having been in Charleston, South Carolina, USA when Hurricane Hugo wreaked billions of dollars of damage in 1990 ... the sky looked much like this for much of the afternoon. Ah ... I digress ...

... This photo ... clouds are so dynamic but it is always difficult to capture their depth, texture, and contrast with a camera. You have done this. You can feel the energy and the impending violence.

I like this one much better than the one with the rainbow simply because you have the trees at the bottom to help the viewer gauge the true enormity of these clouds as well as that beautiful orange below the cloudline courtesy of the oblique angle of the sunlight. Another stunning masterful photograph! :+fav:

Despite how much friends and I complain about how neutral Adelaide is with regards to the weather (hell, a decent thunderstorm would be nice!), we sat back and thought, "Um, errr, yeah, maybe it's not so bad after all." Hope you and your family survived unscathed! Flooding was the main danger, wasn't it? I doubt you would have been up on your roof if it was that bad hailstorm they had in Queensland around the same time. =P
It's a gorgeous photo, and gives hope to amatuers that they might be able to keep up alongside DA's 'professional' bunch. :) The contrast between the orange stip and the black clouds is particularly striking. Wonderful stuff.

Amazing capture. Tell me, do you ever have problems with noise when you take digital pictures of the sky like this? If you do, how do you fix it? Because I don't see any here.

These were put through a program called neatimage... The images were very clean to start off with, but I wanted the presentation of these to be perfect. The best way to get noisefree images, is to shoot with a tripod, on the lowest ISO setting that your camera is capable of... And of course if it has a raw mode, use that, as JPEG compression gives you weird colour banding and things like that...
